I’ve just polished off my latest bottle of the Hylamide Sensitive Fix Booster by Deciem and I’m ready to give you all the details on this serum! Hylamide is from the same brand family as the cult-favorite skincare brand, The Ordinary. While The Ordinary products focus on streamlined formulas featuring 1-2 active ingredients, the Hylamide range offers more complex formulas with blends of numerous actives and extracts.

What is Hylamide Sensitive Fix?
The Hylamide range is priced from $10-27 so it slightly more expensive than the TO line but is still incredibly affordable! The Sensitive Fix Booster is $14 USD for 1oz at the Deciem website and is formulated for sensitive skin to reduce signs of redness and irritation. This comes from their booster collection which is described as “Concentrated treatments for specialized or seasonal supplementary care.”
I paired this serum alongside my regular serum (The Ordinary Buffet alternated with The Ordinary Lactic Acid) but you could definitely use this as a standalone product as well.
Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Saccharide Isomerate, Butylene Glycol, Mirabilis Jalapa Extract, Curculigo Orchioides Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Californicum Ferment Extract, Phospholipids, Propanediol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Polysorbate 20, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol.
Product benefit claims from the brand Deciem:
“Patented Marvel of Peru Advanced biotechnological derivative targets multiple signs of sensitivity and reduces the appearance of redness.
pH-Balancing Golden-Eye Grass Complex Independently-studied plant complex balances skin pH imbalance in the immediate and short term to reduce signs and feeling of sensitivity.”
I tracked down this interesting study that was done on the anti-inflammatory effects of the extract of Mirabilis jalapa Linn. leaves (a.k.a marvel of Peru). Marvel of Peru is mainly grown as an ornamental plant all over the world but originates from South America. The leaves of the plant have been used in traditional folk medicine to soothe skin afflictions as well as many other maladies but it has only very recently started to appear in skincare formulations. It’s always a good sign when you can find research backing up the claims for unique extracts like this. Just because it sounds exotic doesn’t necessarily mean it will provide amazing results!
Hylamide Sensitive Fix Review: Is it Worth It?
To be blunt, no this serum was not worth it and I will not be repurchasing.
This serum claims to target redness and irritation, two skin concerns that I am very interested in tackling! I applied this serum twice daily and the 1oz bottle lasted me just under a month with me using 1/2 a dropper worth of product each time. It’s an unscented, extremely watery, and clear consistency.
I am an extremely ghosty gal and whenever I get a breakout, blemish, or any irritating skin event I experience a lot of redness around that area. I also usually experience flares of redness in my complexion during the winter when things get colder and dryer so I was very excited to try this serum out. During my month of testing, I did not have any extremely dramatic breakouts but I did have the normal smattering of acne and red marks.
My Results After 1 Month of Continuous Use:
I saw absolutely zero change in redness or any other skin factors. About halfway through the month, I thought to myself “Maybe these ingredients are better suited for treating very minor redness/irritation like after a pimple pops or even just overheated red skin from a hot shower?”
My skin always looks very flushed after hot showers so I tried slathering some on after my nightly shower to see if there were any beneficial changes. Nope.
My last-ditch attempt at getting any sort of results from this serum was to apply it to some minor scratches on my forearms. I had pruned rose bushes earlier that day and had quite a few minor grazes that had turned red and irritated which seemed like the perfect situation for the “Patented Marvel of Peru” complex is literally used for this exact skin affliction. I only used it on one arm and left the other bare so I could very clearly see any differences.
Alas, it did not help. The serum did not cause any adverse reactions but I saw absolutely zero results from it either. I’m not upset with it since the pricing is so affordable but I definitely will not be repurchasing in the future.
If you are on the hunt for skincare ingredients that effectively tackle redness and irritation I highly recommend that you look into cica a.k.a centella asiatica. It’s my holy grail ingredient for treating redness, irritation, and acne breakouts. You can learn more about the benefits of centella asiatica for acne-prone skin here.
