The price (and quality) of women's razors is flat out atrocious! I've vowed to stop wasting money on expensive razors exclusively marketed toward women that wear out too fast, and on single-use disposables that feel terrible and wreak havoc on my poor skin. I've put together this Dollar Shave Club Review to see if this shaving subscription can actually make the cut (pun intended ?). The "Pink Tax" hits shaving supplies especially hard for women; razors marketed towards women are exponentially more expensive but rarely the same quality as men's razors. I saw a Dollar Shave Club banner advertising their latest promo a couple of weeks ago; it was $5.00 for the box set above with free shipping. I've really been meaning to get a new razor instead of scalping myself with the cheapie disposable ones that have been hiding in my bathroom cabinet... I mainly went in on this set for the razor. I cannot stand the scent of 9/10 men's care products, but I figured I could foist off the extra goodies on my husband. *update October 2019* Dollar Shave Club still offers a $5 starter box, but the contents have changed slightly. You now get: Executive Razor Cartridges (2 pk) Prep Scrub Trial Size (1 oz) Shave Butter Trial Size (1 oz) Post Shave Dew Trial Size (1 oz) Executive Handle (1 ct) How does Dollar Shave Club work? The program is set up to send a new box every month with a fresh set of four razor heads. Their mantra is a fresh shave and having the ability to change out your razor head every week. I chose the 6 bladed Executive Razor. It has a very hefty metal handle with rubber grips and you get 4 new blade cartridges for $10 a month. From a guy's perspective, I can see how that would be appealing if you were shaving every other day, but I change my razor head twice a month at the most, so I went in and suspended the subscription after my promo box shipped. It's super easy to suspend the service or skip a month. Some subscription services seem to make the act of suspending/canceling their service frustratingly difficult on purpose in the hopes of making you give up. I appreciate the simplicity of navigating Dollar Shave Club's website and how easy it is to edit my membership settings! They went a tad overboard with the literature in the welcome box, the flyer was almost as tall as me for Pete's sake! They also send a mini-magazine in each month's box. Is Dollar Shave Club worth the money? But I'm 100% percent willing to overlook the cheesy macho packaging for the razor, it's actually made of metal and not cheap plastic, has some heft to it and gives a great shave even in tricky areas! I wish they sold a scentless shave butter, I love the feel of the sample that came in the welcome box, but it has an insanely strong menthol pine scent that I can't ignore. There is really no place for fragrance or essential oils in skincare/shave products. This is by far the cheapest shaving set up I have seen, and hands down the best razor I have ever used. DSC gets a big thumbs up from me! Would you ever give DSC a go? Or do you already have a holy grail shave brand? I'd love to hear about it!
