Wilhelm Portland Mausoleum

Hello there!

I spent this Memorial Day weekend wandering the halls of the Wilhelm Mausoleum located in Portland, OR.

The building is only open to the public once a year on Memorial Day. I missed my chance last year since I vacationing in Hawaii, I’m very glad I didn’t make that mistake twice!
There are eight floors in total; we saw quite a few people on floors 1-4, but as we descended farther into the maze of hallways it became more and more deserted and I got some great opportunities to snap some pics of the impressive halls.

The first four floors each had a skylight looking down on a carved marble cherub water feature, it was a little unsettling looking all the way up!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get as many usable photos as I had hoped due to dim lighting in most of the lowers levels. Each floor had antique furniture scattered along the hallways and alcoves. We found this collection of well-worn pieces on the second floor hiding out in a dead end hallway, the mausoleum is very impressive, but it was a little depressing to see the magnitude of disrepair in the older wings.

How did you spend your Memorial Day weekend?
